This is an old coaching inn that is now a JDW and also one of their hotels. Inside it's a large rambling space that is split into various areas with the bar over to the far left. There is a patio at the front. According to What Pub there is another small bar upstairs that I completely failed to notice and a rear garden. It was quiet on my Tuesday afternoon visit. The food clubs here are more expensive than normal but not the breakfast which in their hotels is normally slightly dearer.
The downstairs bar has banks of four and six hand pumps. The four had one unused and three available soon. This left just Abbot, Deuchars IPA, Daleside Square Rigger, Camerons Motorhead Road Crew, Kelham Island Pale Rider and Wolf Woild Moild. I tried the Pale Rider and Woild Moild (both £2.15) and wasn't overly impressed with the condition of either. This one is GBG 2017 listed but that doesn't mean a lot as cask ale seems to be scarce in these parts.
