Will Larter left this review about The Windsor

Traditional bar with counter on the left, and having three hand pumps of changing beers on the front edge, and two more at the far end with Deuchars IPA and a Sandford cider. Several different seating areas in different styles and types of furniture, and plenty of old or reproduction features to appreciate. My half of Stewart Ekuanot was a little disappointing - hazy in appearance and subdued in flavour, but I wouldn't mind returning, perhaps next time I stay at the Hostelling Scotland venue across the road.

Fair interior separated-out by multiple arches and pillars but in no way as enticing as many others in town, though the curved Art Deco bar back is of interest, as is the lovely tiled floor. There's also some intricate dado but it's all painted over rather than picked out with colour. Three cask; Loch Leven, Duddas Tun and Northern Alchemy. A half of the latter's Widening of the Imagination was in decent shape (NBSS 3) but was a mediocre brew. Not a bad place and the barmaid acknowledged the stupidity of Scotland's COVID pub 'rules' (which most places outside of the immediate centre happily disregarded presumably due to their sheer contradictory madness). Very quiet, in contrast to the other pubs that evening that were all doing a fairly healthy trade.

Despite the misleading name, this is actually a pub. It does sell food, although none of the customers were dining on the Friday evening I visited and it seems to be mainly drink orientated. The pub sign outside just says "The Windsor," so it may be that it was originally just called that. The outdoor seating isn't ideal given that it is on a very busy main street, but it's a pleasant and fairly typical Edinburgh pub.
