The public bar is a small room which can be accessed through a door to the left of the main hotel entrance. Around the corner from Tweeddale Street is another entrance through an archway to a yard that is signed The Creel - lounge bar and beer garden. I'd say that beer garden is probably stretching a point, but a lounge bar it certainly is.
I approached the bar where both hand pumps had their pump clips turned around. On questioning about the availability of real ale, the barman disappeared for a minute and returned with a Bitter & Twisted pump clip, which he proceeded to fit to one of the pumps. The beer was fine, but I took it through to the public bar where I found the relaxed atmosphere of horse racing on TV more congenial than the loud music to be found in the Creel.

One of the smallest pubs I have ever been in. It is on a back street leading up to the back of the Oban distillery and a set of stairs called Jacob's ladder that runs steeply up the hill. Had a great time singing karaoke there a couple of years ago.
