The Feathers was not the pub I was aiming for when I made my way to Campbelltown. I was actually aiming for the Commercial Inn nextdoor but after a journey of over an hour to get there and find it closed on a Thursday afternoon, I settled for the Feathers instead.

This pub has a couple of rooms. There is a fairly small bar on the left and a larger room to the right. Both rooms are quite comfortable with a mix of laminate flooring and carpet in the lounge. Both have wallpaper. TVs were switched off for my visit and a jukebox was in use instead. Dogs are allowed in and there were several other customers around, in addition to the barmaid and myself.

There's no cask ale. Pick of the keg beers was Drygate Gladeye IPA. I did eventually make it back to the Commercial nextdoor but I'd agree with the previous view that the Feathers is better.

Around the corner from the main Hotel entrance is its public bar, Feathers, which I would rate as the best pub in Campbeltown. It actually consists of a small, cosy bar and a large adjacent lounge which almost becomes a disco on Saturday nights. Both are well appointed, comfortable, subtly lit and very popular. The Feathers is also one of the town’s least expensive drinking options, with a pint of John Smith’s selling at only £2.60. Fosters, Carlsberg and Tennent’s lagers and Guinness are also on draught. On the wall behind the bar counter, there is a signed photograph of Paul McCartney, which suggests that he might have popped in for a pint at some point, as his Mull of Kintyre farmhouse is just outside Campbeltown.
