A busy and popular town pub just off the main road through. You enter through a smelly outside covered smoking area, and as you approach the loud pop music emanating from within is a warning of what is to come. There is a single J-shaped bar formed by knocking through the original rooms. The long side has stone tiles on the floor, the short side at the back has floorboards. There is a Victorian fireplace at the apex, and there are TV screens all around. There is a pool table at the short end, and there is a juke box which was belting out Elvis hits at full volume – I tried to escape this but I was caught in a trap. There is also a collection of sports trophies on display. It wasn’t particularly welcoming, and the music was competing with three very drunk, very loud females cackling away at the bar and wittering on about rugby, a game they clearly didn’t understand. I wasn’t sure what they were missing – their cauldron or their brain cells. Only one ale on, Doombar, which was in good condition. It’s fine as a community local, but not somewhere I’d come to get slaughtered.
