Brief visit on a Saturday lunchtime between buses. Extremely friendly and enthusiastic landlord, who told me he'd only been running it for seven months: new tables, redecorated throughout, new beer lines, food ... the sort of refit a lot of country pubs need. Plenty of room for groups to sit and eat, as well as a separate raised area for functions and space for a pool table. Friendly young barmaid/waitress attending to a birthday party while I was there. Background music a little modern for my tastes, but not loud enough to drown a conversation. Toilets small, but immaculate. Rev. James on the pull, as well as a few more hand pumps for the tourist season; standard pub range otherwise (Carling, Strongbow, etc). I'd definitely come back if I were in the area again.

This has been a pub since at least the later Victorian period, when all that was in Kittle was a few quarries, limekilns and dirt-tracks connecting them. The pub has grown over time, from what appears as a single extended cottage into two, side-by-side. It is in white render and white painted stone, with a porch, as well as front and back patio areas. The interior has a couple of rooms. The lounge is at the front and is smaller. It is in white and stone, with a nice fireplace and red seating. It felt the diningy kind of area. Victorian prints are on the walls and the TV wasn't on. The bar has military ephemera, home nation flags and some old photos. It too is in white and stone, with wood floor. The TV here had the news on, silently. There is a wurlitzer jukebox, but there was no music. The serivce was fine and a few were in, mainly eating. We didn't eat so can't comment on that. Beer; usual tap stuff with Brain's Stout - on handpull there was SA Gold (decent), an IPA (gravity dispensed) and sadly, the Dark went as i requested it. A nice overall pub, worth a visit for a swifty at least.
