Another one on Thornhill Rd I have never visited previously. The striking feature as you walk through the side car park to the venue is the very large beer garden out the front of the venue. The bar is along wall facing you as walk through front door. Carpeted bar areas on both sides with TV’s on showing live sport. Definitely a venue led by diners and families - how many pubs do you go in that have those mechanical crane type games to grab a soft toy unless you are expecting punters to be there with their kids. I certainly have never felt the urge to go and test my skills after a few pints! Punters positively salivating over a 40% off food offer, most old duffers not realising you needed to have some evidence on your phone that you had signed up for the offer and it didn’t mean you get 40% off food here for life!
Not much here on the beer front. Bad enough when one of three taps is turned over to Doom Bar but effing ridiculous when all three pumps are dispensing that crap. The moribund keg offering seemed positively stellar when lined up against that cask offering. On the lager front we had Coors, Madri, Peroni, Stella and Carling. A regular Strongbow plus Guinness plus the delightful Worthington Creamflow completed the set.
This was a more limited pub visiting trip to Cardiff for me and generally one of my quieter pub visiting weeks in recent times. Out of the three Thornhill Rd venues visited this was the weakest of the three venues. Can’t say I will return to this one.
