Another bar on St Mary St, this one I would imagine have been a grand pub in years gone by! It is long rectangle stretching from the entrance up a small set of steps. The venue is decked out in rainbow flags, multiple glitter balls and a DJ booth on the right-hand side mid pub (no one in residence during my visit but a decent psychedelic soundtrack kept me entertained). On a raised area along the left-hand wall was a red leather banquette and small, tall round tables and high stool with the other edge of this raised area serving as a dividing line from the main walk through the venue and a ledge to perch drinks on whilst sting on tall stools in that area. A rather grand gold edged arch leads to the back of the venue and a wrap-around red leather banquette, the area lending itself to some sort of VIP area, but which had no one of the sort occupying in my visit. Some conventional tables occupy the front of the venue, and the bar is against the right-hand wall, the edge of the underneath illuminated with purple lighting, that aside though a very attractive old fashioned bar counter and nice mirrors hanging on a white tilled wall behind.
Only keg beer available (plus some ready mixed cocktails if you fancy that sort of thing). I would not have expected John Smiths to have featured in the choices here! That aside there was Amstel, K1664, Fosters, Strongbow (regular and dark fruits), Guinness. There was also a Pale Ale and Rainbow Pilsner from Polari, who were well advertised here.
Thought this was, beer options aside an interesting and characterful establishment, at least whilst it was relatively quiet. Expectation of a different vibe later as there were bouncers on the door even at my relatively early evening visit time. Advertising before and after party for the Billy Joel concert in the Millenium later in week when I would imagine this place and all around will be effing heaving.
