Will Larter left this review about The Victoria Vaults
This is a very nice single room bar with traditional bench seating and stools, upholstered in two different patterns and clashing also with the carper, but the overall effect was surprisingly harmonious. The bar counter is on the left and has an area of tiled floor around it. The walls have numerous pictures, split in category between some very fine paintings of ships (the landlord was apparently a merchant seaman) and rural scenes. Just one real ale on the bar: Muirhouse Shunters Pole which was in good condition; I was surprised to see it here as it is brewed in Derbyshire at Ilkeston and had therefore come as far as I had to Newtown. With a choice of two or three ales this would be a pub to rival the Sportsman or the Railway, but even with just the one I would be happy to call in next time I'm in the area.
