The Cross Inn is the brewery tap for the Cerddin Brewery and can be found on the A4063 in the village of Cwmfelin, just south of Maesteg.
There are a couple of rooms either side of the entrance, along with an outdoor courtyard to the pub's left-hand side. It was the outdoor space which was proving most popular on a fairly warm Saturday afternoon.
We chose the bar to the left, which we had almost to ourselves, apart from people regularly appearing from outside to get drinks. It is a traditional-looking space with bare boards, a couple of TVs (both off with a radio station playing instead), a dartboard, plenty of large pictures on the walls and a large Welsh flag on the ceiling. The lounge on the right-hand side was carpeted.
Four handpulls at the bar were all clipped with the in-house brewery's beers - Solar, Cascade, Cwmdu Stout & American Pale Ale. I tried the Stout and the Pale Ale and both were fine. In addition, a board to the side of the bar listed a couple of ciders from Weston's - Family Vintage & Rosie's Pig Rhubarb. Take-aways are available too and not just beer, as eggs were also for sale.
Children are allowed in. A wifi password is provided and if you get peckish, toasties are available to purchase for £2.70 with a large machine used to make them sat behind the bar.
The pub serves as a pub for villagers who just want a lager, in addition to a draw for cask ale enthusiasts. Signs behind the bar warned of a grumpy old man but the landlord was actually quite cheery and happy to chat to both locals and strangers such as ourselves.
For me, this was my favourite pub of a day's visit to Glamorgan. It is deservedly listed in the Good Beer Guide.

GBG listed tap of the Cerddin Brewery. Nice place with two bars and well looked-after. Four of their cask on alongside Westons cider, the Cascade wasn't my bag in terms of taste but was in decent nick (NBSS 3). A very tight timetable meant a swift exit to get the bus back to Bridgend which was a shame as I could have happily spent a bit longer in here. 7.5

Beautiful Pint, in comfortable surroundings. Great welcome from landord Dai, and wife Gill. Worth a visit.
