I remember coming here around 20 years ago and it being a rather poky cluttered pub with pretty boring beers on offer. Cader Brewery have completely transformed it into a clean open plan split level room with chunky wooden tables, wooden floors and cushions on the window ledges providing window seats. There is still a dart board that I was assured is still used by the pub team. I was delighted to find that the Gents toilet is still outside across the back yard (the Ladies are inside as well as a disabled toilet). I did notice that there were some stocks in the yard and thought they could be put to very good use on any able bodied men that ask to use the disabled toilet when it's raining, snowing or at any other time. Basic pub food is on offer that as far as I could make out was mainly pies mash and peas.
The bar is situated on the far left of the room and has six hand pumps with two reserved for cider but only one on my visit. The four beers were Cader Gold & Red Bandit, Wye Valley Butty Bach and Spitting Feathers Thirst Quencher. I was told there's normally three Cader beers and just one guest. I went for the Gold & Red Bandit (£3.00) both of which were excellent.
Dolgellau is a great little town for a pub crawl with minimal walking involved and this place makes it even better. It's well worth a visit.
