Opposite the bus stop back to civilisation, so thought I’d neck a half. That idea was quickly thwarted as I was informed that it was ‘food only’ tonight; whether that was genuinely true or they didn’t like the cit of my jib, I can’t say. Shame, it looked quite nice inside. Rev James was the token ale. You have to wonder if this really qualifies as a pub.

Almost 5 years on since my last attempt to visit this pub and this time I managed to gain entry. Last time, I had walked through the door into the pub on a Sunday evening, only to be told by the landlord that they were closed. This time, it was full with diners on our Thursday evening visit and we were requested to sit on tables on the pavement at the front.
Doom Bar & Rev James were the 2 real ales to choose from. Sadly we didn't get to see too much of the interior. Although, there appeared to be plenty of ephemera to admire on the walls. Outside, the pub overlooks the main town square, which is pretty despite being a glorified roundabout. Usk Castle is also nearby, but the owners there no longer allow casual visitors either.
Usk is certainly a strange town, but I can now say I have finally managed to visit the Nags Head!
