Thought it was closed on approach, seeing as it was sporting a hideous scaffolding and tarp contraption disfiguring the pub’s front which on closer inspection was a cheap and cheerful COVID method of increasing the covered outside seating. A bit piecemeal inside with a traditional front bar and a rear restaurant which feels like a 70’s extension. A generally worn feel but not in a scruffy way. The garden is nice and has a lovely view of the historic church opposite. Two ales on, Pedigree (NBSS 2.5) and a Hobgoblin Gold which didn't fully clear but was just about drinkable (2). Ate here and the food was proper pub grub, I got two faggots the size and density of cricket balls with enough mustard mash to Polyfilla all but the biggest cracks; tasty as well. Plenty of staff on and friendly service. So a mixed bag as the cask let the side down but if you want to eat good quality non-nonsense food, this is your place.
