Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Boot Inn

I thought the Boot Inn was the nicer of Calstock's two pubs. It's hidden away in the backstreets, a little up the hill from the river. Opening times are limited to Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes. So, time your visit right.

It is a traditional pub with bare boards and raised areas (as it is built into the hill) either side of a central bar which has some quite elaborate woodwork. This felt more like a pub for the elderly locals than the Tamar Inn. Although, there is also a big focus on food. A group of 3 youngsters were dining, whilst there was one older drinker sat at the bar. Music was playing.

The 73-year-old lady who served me was pouring her first ever cask ale. There are a couple of handpulls, one dispensing Summerskills Bolt Head and the other was unclipped. The cider was Inch's. The lady did a reasonable job but she had no idea of the price, instead waiting for a young barman to return and take payment. She seemed quite a character and was getting very excitable in anticipation for the arrival of a large thunderstorm, which duly came just as I was ready to walk back down to the village car park. Their hospitality came to the fore, with the offer of an umbrella or alternatively to make my stay longer with the offer of some food.

After giving it a bit of time, I made a run for it, getting somewhat wet whilst contemplating that the Boot Inn is definitely a more favourable pub in Calstock, if you are lucky enough to find it open.
