Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The John Fielding (JD Wetherspoon)
Character-free 'spoons housed in an unattractive single-storey building adjacent to the regional shopping centre. No distinguishing features inside, but very busy (as on my first visit some 11 years ago) particularly the wooden benches outside on the side terrace on a hot summer day this time. Poor selection from ten handpumps, with many duplicates, leaving Ruddles, Doom Bar, Abbot, Black Sheep Ale and Bowman's Hop Hearted (£1.99).

Classic 60s build, a couple of minutes stroll from the station. A workaday Spoons in terms of decor but top-drawer service and a really fast app order, served with a smile. Three guest ales and my Rudgate was an enjoyable drop (NBSS 3.5) and justified the GBG listing. Big ticks in all the basic JDW boxes which often these small town branches achieve because they are viewed more like a pub than a drinking barn, and also tend to be staffed by their own punters! 7.5

John Fielding was some local geezer who was involved in Rorke's Drift, probably alongside Michael Caine. It's an absolutely hideous building on the outside but we learn from What Pub that it was a pub before JDW came along and called the Moonraker Inn so they are not to blame! Inside it's probably about as good as you could expect and on my Saturday afternoon visit it was packed with all sorts of people.
The bar has two sets of hand pumps with a poor selection on my visit. Beers were the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up, Bombardier, Ringwood 49'er, Exmoor Gold and Bullmastiff Son Of A Bitch. I went for the 49'er which was in good nick. This place is GBG 2017 listed.
