Recently renovated and re-opened, this pub previously used its Welsh title (Tafarn y Bont) but now has reverted to the shortened English version, with branding to match. The former garden has been paved over as a car park, but they’ve had a rethink and have now put new wooden benches and seats on much of it to supplement the small paved yard just behind the pub. Inside, the single L-shaped bar has been extended into a narrow buffet area at the back, and it has kept its chimney breat and woodburner. Food is normally on offer, but when we visited there was a function on so we ate elsewhere. Despite being rushed off their feet with the function, the staff were friendly and helpful, and we didn’t feel we were imposing. Ales on were Rhymney Export, Rhymney IPA and Butty Bach, all in excellent condition. Also available were Cruzcampo, Moretti and Inch’s Cider. I’d be very happy to come back, and hopefully try the food.
