Accessed across a death-defying roundabout from the train station, this one is a traditional boozer. Inside is a tight U-shaped interior with varnished wood plank panelling from floor to ceiling as well as some ornamental bar back wood carving – rather unusual and quite tidy. Really busy and nowhere easy to sit so sadly my appreciation of the interior was confined to a couple of minutes. A gruff harassed barman versus loud rock music making it hard to hear what he (or I) were saying. Three cask pumps with Doom Bar, Rev James (NBSS 3) and a guest whose pump was massively obscured by stuff so I took it to be off. £3.50 for the pint wasn’t to be sniffed at either. Ended-up sitting in the grassed side garden, which was decent enough. It’s worth making an effort to sample for the interior, and it’s GBG’22 listed as well. 6.5
