Situated just across a side street from the White Lion Inn, this pub is named after a local rugby player. It may well be his rather large statue that resides in the park opposite, but the rain discouraged us from taking a peek.
This is a fairly large Marston's house with a restaurant area that was being prepared for some kind of private party. Staff in here were friendly and when seeing that none of the 3 handpulls were clipped and having enquired about real ale, I was at least directed to a Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA or a Marston's Smooth on keg. I politely declined. Other keg options were Strongbow, Strongbow Dark Fruit, Fosters, Carling, Coors, Guinness, Stella & Staropramen.
With no real ale here, I did prefer the White Lion across the road. But this felt more like a community pub.
