Blue Scrumpy left this review about White Horse Inn

I wasn't expecting to find this pub open on a Thursday evening and had planned to visit it at midday opening the following day. So, it was a pleasant surprise to find it open. I suggested the same to the barmaid who said that not all websites had been updated with their latest opening times. A quick check of my various sources now reveals the times to have been updated since.

The pub is located through an alleyway and across a courtyard. There are 3 rooms with a dining room to the left and drinking space on the right split into two distinct sections. The bar spreads itself across both sections but both handpumps and the keg selection are all in the left-hand selection. The right-hand part of the bar has wallpaper and a TV on the wall. Music was playing and live music is advertised. There were also a fair few Halloween decorations. The courtyard is a reasonable size and provides outdoor seating.

With Llandeilo being the location for Evan Evans brewery, their Cwrw is the regular beer. Instead, I opted for a guest beer from the same brewery called Storm Runner. Keg beers included Rebel IPA & Clwb Tropica from Tiny Rebel. Ciders were Sharp's Cold River, Red Hog & Carling Black Fruits. WhatPub suggests that real cider is available, but it wasn't on this occasion.

I didn't think that the beer condition was quite as good here as in Yr Hen Vic and the Salutation but the White Horse provides a nice, relaxed drinking environment and all 3 Good Beer Guide entries in the town have their merits.

Hidden down a passageway leading to a courtyard, a splendidly unspoilt town pub with an old-fashioned bar area including a little snug at the end and a separate sitting room across a passageway. Round the back is a garden area while the front courtyard is also under an awning during the summer. Draught ales are from Evan Evans with just Cwrw and Blonde on offer at time of visit, but the latter was very drinkable.

I had a slight bit of trouble finding this pub as it's tucked away behind an arch with just one of those old Bass Charrington black plastic boxes from over forty years ago giving the game away. Through the arch is a courtyard with some tables and chairs then the pub behind.
Inside the bar is on the right and there is a separate carpeted lounge or snug on the left. The main bar has a large old fireplace. On my Wednesday afternoon visit there were a few locals in.
The bar has six hand pumps only five of which were in use. These had Evan Evans BB, Cwrw, Warrior, Partisan Snapper and a guest Porter Street Oval 6. I tried the BB (£2.50), Cwrw (£2.75), Partisan Snapper (£2.85) and Oval 6 (£2.85). The Cwrw was hazy but the rest were fine.
This is the Evan Evans brewery tap and is a fine old pub. The brewery is somewhere over near the station apparently.
