Blue Scrumpy left this review about Royal Oak Hotel

This was the better of the two Lampeter pubs we visited on Saturday. The pub has stopped serving real ale. So, I didn't have high hopes for it. However, a pile of boxed ciders from Gwynt y Ddraig at the end of the bar lifted my spirits somewhat. Those available were Black Dragon, Dog Dancer, Celtic Warrior, Haymaker, Ancient Warrior, Farmhouse Scrumpy & Two Trees Perry.

The pub is entered by a central gateway. A dining area is to the left and the bar is to the right. Straight ahead is a courtyard for outdoor drinking. The bar had a few in and there were also some in the courtyard. The restaurant appeared to be closed. Although it was still only late afternoon.

This pub seemed much more lively than the Nag's Head down the road and had a mix of different ages, both men and women. Whilst the Nag's Head had been showing Rugby Union on its TV, the Royal Oak was showing a Rugby League final.

I suspect the profusion of ciders were leftovers from a recently held cider festival or similar. So on another day, I may not have scored this place a 6/10. But for now, I rate this as marginally the best pub in Lampeter.
