A no frills boozer in the shadow of new apartment blocks, this has managed to survive unchanged for years unlike many other bars in the nearby area which have either closed or reinvented themselves as something altogether more trendy.
Internally it’s a single L-shaped room, with old red carpet on the floor and some lino by the bar counter. Décor wise it’s fairly plain with deep red paintwork on the lower part of the walls and cream plasterwork above. Seating is mostly high tables and stools with further stools at the bar, although there were also conventional tables and chairs towards the rear. A TV screen was showing a soap, although fortunately the volume was off so this was not too intrusive. A further screen was at the rear but this was not in use. To the left were a pool table and darts board, and a ladies darts match was in progress on a recent Thursday evening visit. The friendly barmaid offered us some of the food that had been provided for the team.
Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap although they did at least have a trio of ciders to choose from – Thatcher’s Gold, Thatcher’s Haze and Blackthorn.

The Jolly Colliers is a decent looking pub that is painted in a two tone green colour, the pub is situated on the busy West Street, the pub still has its old Ushers signage in place, should be john smiths now.
Once inside there is a single L shaped room with a pool table and darts board to the front left, the room is carpeted and the seating normal tables and chairs, there is a TV to the front right which was showing sky football.
There were no real ales on the bar,so it was a drink of John Smiths smooth crap which lived up to its name.
This is a decent enough pub, just a shame there was not one real ale on the bar.
