Recently refurbished and reopened the George and Dragon is an established pub in the centre of Kirkbymoorside, a traditional North Yorkshire market town. Inside it has one large room loosely divided by a low wall into a bar eating area and a restaurant eating area. All tables. Several posters advertise accommodation. The place is clearly very old with beams and a low bowed ceiling. However the refurbishment has somewhat robbed it of any character, turning it into just another 2020s ‘painted wall’ pub. On hand pump were Theakston’s best, Wainwright Gold, and Daleside Blonde. Not the most inspiring trio. Bar staff were unfriendly and not welcoming. The place is oriented towards food and rooms. I was left with the impression that beer sales weren’t high on their priority. I wouldn’t rush back.
