A substantial pub located in a pretty village on the edge of the Wolds, which seems to do its best to hide in plain sight. I wasn't even sure it was open but tried the door and espied a couple of customers inside. The main room, in a striking red and cream colour scheme, has been completely opened out with a square bar counter to one side and a pool table behind it. Apart from a small area at the front, seemingly popular with dog owners, the rest of the pub had tables laid out for diners (all unused apart from one drinker). This did not feel welcoming at all, and I really think they need to decide what is pub and what is restaurant. Two cask ales were on, with a Theakstons Best handpump by the door and, as I later discovered, Rudgate Yorvik round the other side - ask what is on next time! It's nice enough, but has the potential to be really good.
