A small stand-alone pub on the long drag between Burncross and Chapeltown. It wasn't open when I passed, but I hadn't accounted for how dark it was and it turned out it was only just 4pm, so I turned back and found it open, though I was the only customer. There are three hand pumps on the small bar counter in the room on the right - there is a small access in the corridor as well, and then a room to the left, down a couple of steps because of the hill. Just one beer on, Ossett Barghest stout ((NBSS 3, £5.50/pint), but there is usually another - let down by a late delivery - often from Little Critters, which I was told usually sells well.

The Wharncliffe Arms is a stone built pub that is on the main road through Burncross.
Once inside there was a drinking corridor and a small room to the right where i had a drink, there was a larger lounge to the left which was down one step.
There were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Sheffield Crucible bitter and this was a decent well kept drink, the other beers were Abbeydale Dr Mortons Essence Fumour and Cottage AF Grand Prix.
There was a good few locals in and the friendly landlord offered me a drink of an Adnams beer which had ginger in it.
This is a proper unaltered pub and well worth a visit.
