A good traditional backstreet boozer, where I met a very well dressed barman with a shirt, tie and waistcoat, who was proud of his cask ales and told us they were all local. The Bradfield Brewery within a 4 miles radius and Stancill Brewery only 1 mile away.
Four handpumps serving Stancill Barnsley Bitter, Blonde and Stainless, plus one from Bradfield Farmer's Blonde. A good priced menu is available at lunch times. Mrs Ale had the fish finger bap in here and gave it a thumbs up.

Only a short visit to this one as it was the last stop before catching my train back down to the smoke and I primarily came here to look at the small snug behind the bar which fortunately, despite the pub being quite lively on this early Saturday evening, was completely empty and I had it to myself.
Same four ales on as mentioned below and I finally succumbed to trying the Abbeydale Moonshine which wasn’t too bad a pale ale and decidedly better than their Daily Bread I had earlier on this visit to Sheffield.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion
Attractive frontage with bold Wards signage still showing the original ownership. The slightly split-level 'L'-shaped interior has been refurbished in a semi-traditional style, but the small side extension (with a compact front patio terrace) is more modern in appearance. Also has a pool table and a nice hidden snug. Four real ales on handpump: two from Stancill - Barnsley Bitter and the Blonde (£1.80, half) - Abbeydale Moonshine and Holy Grail from Black Sheep.

It's a few years since I've been here. Previous visits were encouraged by live sport on TV - I can remember persuading the landlord to show a Luton Town match in the little corner snug for me and a couple of friends while a different match played on the big screen in the main bar. It seems they don't do live sports any more - at least, with Royal Ascot on ITV and World Cup cricket on Sky there was only vacuous afternoon chatter on, and it wasn't even muted. I took my half to the snug, where there are no speakers. Black Sheep Bitter used to be a go-to beer here, or Timothy Taylor Landlord, but on this occasion the Black Sheep offering was the blonde and bland Monty Python's Holy Grail; in addition they had Abbeydale Moonshine, and Stancill Blonde and Barnsley Bitter. My half of Barnsley was only so-so and set me back what I still consider a whopping £1.80. The snug is a pleasant room to sit in for a quarter of an hour, but I'd like a better beer to help me pass the time there.

A traditional style pub set out in a sort of upside down reversed F shape. Its a nice pub and worth a look in. 4 handpumps today dispensing Farmers Brown Cow, Stansil Barnsley Bitter, Sheffield Tool Makers Brewery Razmataz plus another. A raised area is at the far end and to the right of that a pool table. A small snug is behind the bar along with the toilets.

This is quite a small pub with separate distinct areas. There's a raised area to the rear with a pool table and a conservatory area to the right. There's a small snug behind the bar which you can get through the door marked toilets. There's also a small, paved, enclosed beer garden at the front. It was very food led when I called in on a midweek lunchtime. Almost everyone was eating, they looked like they were from local offices rather than tourists. There's a quiz machine, but it wasn't working on my visit. There were 4 handpumps on the bar serving Bombardier, Deuchars, Black Sheep and the rather more interesting Sheffield 5 Rivers which is what I had. It was a decent enough pint without being totally top notch. I'll probably not call in again, but if you've got a few minutes to kill before getting a train I'd go to the Sheffield Tap instead. :-))

A multi-area (as opposed to roomed) city-centre local, with a conservatory and small outside smoking area. Three ales were available (Black Sheep, Deuchars IPA and Abbeydale Moonshine) at £2.60p/p. My Moonshine was a bit flat. The barmaid was perfunctory and seemed more interested in chatting to her friend. The interior is tidy but fairly unremarkable, save for a few old Sheffield Theatre posters dotted around the walls; there are hints that interior used to be a lot more exciting though I imagine it all got ripped out a few years back – the exterior certainly promises more than the interior delivers. There's a pool table and good basic food is available (including muffins!?!). The lack of punters meant that the piped music and muted TV dominated more than they should have done.
It isn't bad for what it is, but if you're on a day trip to the city to drink you'd be best off giving this one a miss unless you've got a few minutes to kill before getting a train back.
