Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Roebuck
Traditional detached pub, now looking rather out of place amongst the surrounding office blocks, student residences and hotels. Irregular layout inside, with refurbished furniture and décor in the various seating areas. Two pool tables, side patio area and live music advertised. Good selection from the six handpumps on this revisit (my first for 11 years): Kirkstall Three Swords, Romantic Atmosphere from Pennine, Yorkshire Heart's Rhu-Bar-Beer, Kaiser from Welbeck Abbey, Rat Brewery's Rat in the Hat and Tiny Rebel Night Hawk £4.90).

Traditional pub exterior and a refurbed interior which still retains various sections despite an overall open plan layout. To the right is a snug style section with leather upholstered banquettes, while at the rear there is a room with 2 pool tables.A few high tables exist near the bar, while there is an outside patio under an awning but sadly close to the kitchen ventilation system so you will be aware of the deep fat fryer.
The bar has 6 handpumps offering on my trip Black Sheep Holy Grail,Kelham Island Night Shift,Sheffield Crucible Best,Bradfields Farmers Wimbulldon, and Roosters Star & Stripes in decent nick.
Worth popping in if crawling the area, maybe not quiet enough to justify spending much longer inside or out.

Following my review of more than six years ago I did come back once or twice but found the beers brewed specifically for the pub to be uninspiring. The pub seems to be in different hands now, or at least the beer quality has improved. Instead of national brands mingled with home brews, they now have half a dozen beers from half a dozen Yorkshire breweries. My half of Naylors Doosra was very good, reflecting credit on both the brewer and the cellarman. Quite pricey though, at £1.85 for a half. Still, I wouldn't mind popping back some time to see what else is on.

It looks like this place has been modernised though the seating and tables suggest otherwise. Open plan with various areas to sit. 6 handpumps on the bar but only 3 on today.

Called in to see what had changed with the new ownership. The pub itself is very generic internally with no outstanding features. Given that the outside is interesting it was a bit disappointing to find such a bland interior. Only 2 of the handpumps in use on our Wednesday evening visit. One had a national beer on that was so uninteresting that I can't remember what it was. The other had their own Wood Street Snowbell Japanese on, so I had a pint of that. It tasted OK, without being anything to shout about, so we just had the one and moved on to Henrys.

This pub has recently be taken over by the people who also run the Hillsborough Hotel. There are four hand pumps on the bar, three in use on my recent visit. The beers available were Wells Eagle IPA, Jennings Cumberland Ale and their own WSB (Wood Street Brewery) Sassafras. According to Wikipedia, sassafras used to be an ingredient in root beer until it was banned in the States because if consumed in large quantities it can cause liver damage. Apparently it is still used by microbrewers, and I assume there is some in this 4.7% pale ale, though as I had a cold it was hard to taste much more than malt and alcohol.
There is a drinking area around the centrally placed bar, with seating further away in the other rooms. One room has deep red plush wallpaper and a traditional fireplace, though I don't think this is in use. Unremarkable pub furniture throughout, with some tables outside for the better weather, when the surrounding skyscrapers and the "cheese grater" car park next door can be admired.
This pub would be worth an extended visit if they could lose the bland nationally available beers and concentrate on their own - perhaps this is the long term plan?
