This pub seems to have been refurbished once or twice since my last visit 12 years ago. The blue painted bar counter, with brass elbow rail, is at the back and has three hand pumps. One had a pump clip turned around, and this prompted me to ask if they ever have any cask beers on. I was told they tried to order something for Christmas but despite two or three attempts and promised deliveries that failed to arrive, they have still received nothing. No surprise that the pub is owned by Heineken. I went for a half of Beavertown Neck Oil, which was pretty awful - too gassy - and £5.80/pint.

Three of us caught the bus out here from the town centre because we'd read in Camra's local guide that there's real ale on here. However, despite the sign over the bar promising real ale, the solitary hand pump was empty and they were not expecting to have any on for "a few weeks". We weren't prepared to wait that long, so two of us had a half of each of the the keg offering: John Smiths Smooth Crap and Tetleys Equally Smooth Not-quite-such-crap. The third member of the party got the best deal: he drank nothing at all. If we'd been lager or keg drinkers I dare say we'd have had a good time here: it's not a bad looking pub and had quite a pleasant atmosphere at the time of our visit, but just a drop of real ale would have made all the difference to us.
