Just like 12 years ago, the Crown has recently reopened after a refurbishment, but this time it was only a midweek closure and there are "we're open" banners on the scaffolding around the pub. Roof? I hope it's a paint job - it's been a dull modern grey-blue-green-murk for a few years now. Four beers available on hand pumps - a random cider fills the gap, but they have several cider clips on the bar pelmet, so I guess it's normally five beers. More clips on the wall beside the pumps shows "coming next" - all different beers from what are on today. I had two halves of Dancing Duck Abduction and JW Lees Bitter, both in decent condition. My random Sunday walk brought me here rather than the Sheaf View; maybe I'll bear it in mind for another occasion.

Recently reopened after a brief period of closure, during which a quite expensive-looking refurbishment appears to have taken place (though I'm only guessing as this was my first visit). There are two rooms, and we moved from the main bar, where there's a pool table and some rather loud music, to the smaller and quieter room on the left, where the TV was showing muted BBC News 24. There's a choice of ales on the bar: I had Black Sheep Bitter but failed to note what the other option was. This is the place to start a Heeley crawl: Crown, Red Lion, White Lion, Old Shakespeare and Sheaf View (leaving the best until last, of course).
