First impressions are that this place is surprisingly large pub for a small village, with extensive terraced tables to the front. Inside it proved to be more of an upmarket restaurant than a pub, with a baronial drawing room sort of interior and table service only. Although not unpleasant, It all felt a bit too contrived. It did however still manage to have half a dozen handpumps on the bar with ales including Leeds Pale, Ossett Blond, TT Landlord, Theakston's Best and Rooster's Capability Brown, although the latter had sadly just expired. Food is pricey and not available all day except in summer.

An elegant, open plan, dining pub with multiple spaces laid out for eating although the main bar at the front of this large pub is a pleasant area for drinking. This space is furnished with tables and leather armchairs while there are two more formal dining areas, a more informal area to the side, although it has a chandelier, and a further dining area with a counter at the back. Six hand-pumps dispense well kept ales from local small breweries and there are well stocked fridges with a selection of interesting European and American bottled beers. The young enthusiastic staff provide a high quality of service and the food is pretty good.
