Old Boots left this review about Penny Hill

A down at heel pub by a shopping centre, I walked in on a Wednesday afternoon, well attended, bingo session conducted by a lady in a side booth. I nearly didn’t get in as a nicotine bouncer was waving his arms around like a windmill, I had the same trouble from him and an old woman on the way out. Fortunately there’s a smaller back room with pool table, darts, screen, machine, piped music and a faint smell of wee; possibly from the punter who gave me the evil eye. Decor in grey, worn carpets, big windows onto the road outside, yes a classic 1960s town centre pub. Beer choice? I guess you know but it included Cafferys! I haven’t seen that vomit tasting, and probably vomit inducing, liquid for years.

Alan Winfield left this review about Penny Hill

The Penny Hill is a large pub that is next to a shopping precinct.
There are two rooms in this pub the large and smart lounge is at the front and the bar is at the back of the pub.
I was surprised to see one hand pump on the bar which had Theakston best on this was a fairly dismal drink has it had very little flavour.
This pub was very busy with locals.
