A long low old pub with a maze of rooms at varying floor levels inside. Entering from the road there’s a room, a public bar, half a step down to the left with the main part of the L shaped counter. Straight ahead has a snug with a machine and the gents, the short arm of the counter with its quad T-bar to your left, to the right some tall seating and banquettes. Further to the right is a more fancy sitting room in use for bingo when I called in.
Interesting decor in the largely unspoiled rooms, pictures and drawings mainly, the public still has quarry tiles, modern slate tiles or industrial carpet elsewhere. There are a lot of screens.
The small public bar on the left has a screen and three pulls, unclipped apart from one with an hand written Mad Goose clip but topped by an half pint glass. Stuck with a fairly standard keg choice of lager, cider, Guinness and John Smith’s Smooth I plumped for Moretti. There’s a bit of a garden out back past the Gents, which incidentally are of the slab type but have those “pee here gents” footballs and nets, why? With decent beer this could be a great rather than a good pub.

The New Inn is definitely my kind of pub. It is bigger than it looks from the outside. There is a small bar on the left as you enter, with further drinking area to the right. There also appeared to be a garden area at the rear, which I did not venture out to.
We chose to sit in the bar, where there are low beamed ceilings and old pictures of the pub and the village of Barwick In Elmet.
3 real ales were on - Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold, Timothy Taylor Boltmaker & Moorhouse's White Witch. I had the latter, which was in good condition.
The young barmaids were friendly and welcoming. It's rare that I give a pub with no dark real ales or real ciders a 7/10, but I did enjoy my visit here and would be happy if this was my local.

This is a gem of a Tradition pub with good old traditional values. Good beers, along with excellent food, friendly staff, and a gem of a Ladlady. Look out for their Special dining evenings! Beware you will probably have to book. Tucked away in the lovely village of Barwick in Elmet its most certainly one not to be missed. If you decide to go as I did you will definatly want to call back.
