Blue Scrumpy left this review about Royal Oak

The only pub in the village of Kinnersley, this one is located on a junction and can be found in the 2025 Good Beer Guide.

The carpeted bar is to the front and features many horse racing pictures and a Courage Best mirror at one end. The other end had a TV showing live horse racing from York. Off to the left of the bar, there is a small room in a dip with more horse racing pictures, a sweet machine (children are allowed in) and a games machine. Beyond that was a dining room with the pub dog blocking access. Further seating is provided by picnic tables in the car park to the front.

Butcombe Original is the regular cask ale. Guests were Wye Valley Butty Bach, Purity Mad Goose & Black Sheep Best Bitter. Butcombe West Coast Session IPA was on keg. Ciders were Butcombe Ashton Press Medium Dry & Cornish Orchards Golden.

This was quite a busy locals' pub with a landlord who initially seemed suspicious of a couple of visitors, but who seemed to warm to us, as did the pub dog. It doesn't seem to take much to get pubs into the Good Beer Guide around this area though. This was our third consecutive Guide pub, but none of them were particularly memorable.

Creeped into the Good Beer Guide 2024 Edition, so trying to keep Worcestershire all ticked we headed off to investigate.

Centre of the village, with a front bar with a handful of locals who knew each other well. A separate dining room to the rear, although all in darkness. Unsure whether they still do food. Seemed little evidence on a Friday lunch time.

Freehouse and we saw the Hobsons delivery van on arrival for our walk. Sure enough, Hobsons Bitter and Oldfield Cider was selected.

Friendly staff and locals.

Good ale and a huge list of keg stuff. A "locals" pub. Still going well despite previous landlords' efforts to drive it into the ground. Youngish (well to me anyway) couple working hard to re-establish this place. Juke box, dogs, food in the bar - all the things I hate in a pub. But.... it has a great atmosphere and the natives aren't averse to havin' a chat.
