This pub is now part of a chain called the Malting Dog Pub Co. Ltd. Bar staff were wearing Malting Dog t-shirts. I can't say it's a chain that I've heard of but it did appear to have a fair amount of individuality and as long as they're not all identikit designs, I would have to say that they have done a good job with this one. Although a quick search for this pubco didn't reveal any other outlets. Perhaps they just have grand plans?
There is a bar and a dining room. The bar has lots of exposed brickwork and some painted yellow walls. Varied seating included armchairs with bulls' hair, milk churns with seats on top and there was also a table on a bicycle. Lighting was in the form of circular saws and ladders! The dining room was just opening as we arrived late on a Saturday afternoon and it looked equally eclectic. In addition, an extensive garden was proving popular in the late afternoon sunshine.
Unsurprisingly, Wye Valley HPA & Butty Bach are the regular cask ales. The guest was Otter Bitter. Ciders were all from Thatcher's - Gold, Juicy Apple, Apple & Blackcurrant, Cloudy Lemon & Blood Orange.
Dogs and children are welcome, with drawing sheets and board games available for the latter. Music was playing quite loud (although we were next to a speaker) and a wifi password was provided.
I quite liked this pub and wouldn't mind trying any future pubs the pubco opens. This one is certainly a good starting point.

First to review. Around 2020 - it had a complete make over, both inside and outside (where there is a lovely beer garden). Not the best time to have been investing in a pub but I'm glad to report its a real success. Always seems to be busy and has made the 2024 and 2025 Good Beer Guide.
Simple setup with bar and separate dining room. Beers on my latest visit were HPA, Butty Bach and Black Sheep Bitter. The Black Sheep was in perfect condition. £4.20.
On previous visits, we've had Sunday lunch - which is good quality but a little expensive.
