A picturesque timberframed thatched pub in an isolated position close to the border with Worcestershire.Of great interest to the lover of vernacular buildings, this pub has been meticulously renovated after a lengthy period of closure and dereliction:the green oak frame of a further extension is visible to the rear.Approached through a pretty garden, still floriferous on our visit in mid October, the pub is entered through a porch, servery to the left, tables and ingle nook fire to the right. A staircase midway leads to a further restaurant (not visited).
A lovely flagstone floor, much wood-beams and posts, lath and plaster, exposed brickwork. Quiet on our late lunchtime session, a few walkers in the garden. On the bar-Wye Valley Butty Bach,Ludlow Gold and Otter Bitter. My Gold was in good condition, if not awesome. We all ate burgers, which seemed homemade and hearty:food is, understandably important here.
