The history of this pub is about the most interesting thing.... an unmanned bar at the front has a blackboard with details of Charles II visit, dating from 1640, the well/cellar in the main room and its former use as a jail before hanging.

Its sprawling inside - as I went looking for where to get served. Wooden support beams, partitioned rooms, flagstone flooring. Signs of life in a back bar.

No cask. Half a Guinnes in the correct, yet dirty glass.

Is this the first pub I have been to that has GB News on the TV Screens?

Sprawling old pub. We called in just after opening so it was pretty quiet on arrival but quite a few in when we left! Only Banks's Amber on the ale front but it was a decent pint. Enjoyed a game of pool in the back room.

This Bank's house celebrated it's 375th birthday this year. The interior consists of a small front bar with seating along the front windows and a raised area over in the corner. It was only until we ventured into the rear lounge, where we came across a huge carpeted room, with an open fireplace, a covered well and original exposed timber beams. There was another enclosed lounge across the corridor. Four ales on handpump, Banks Bitter, two from Hobgoblin and a Ringwood Fortyniner. The Ringwood was in fair shape, overall a good traditional pub.

Great place - good mix of young and old. Music is it's blood with great bands and atmosphere. Friendly and a good selection of beers and the best fish and chip shop next door! If your up for a cracking curry - that's the other way! Overall a no nonsense, honest pub where you'll have a great night.

This is a great pub. We visited in December 2009 and had the time of our lives. Ian and Dee are very gracious hosts. There is much history behind the place. It was built in the 1600's and some of the same support beams can still be seen inside. The place is also haunted. You can get a room for very cheap and the food is excellent!! It is walking distance from the main strip of shops and pubs. I will stay there again when I go back.
