A working village pub just off the main A36. There is parking at the front and side, and there is a pleasant garden at the back with views across the river, and there is bench seating at the front by the road. Inside, the front rooms have been conjoined to form a single long bar, although leaving the large chimney stack in place makes for an informal division between a small dining area at one end and the main bar area, with the bar counter, at the other. The chimney stack is open both sides to heat both areas with its small woodburner. The floor is old parquet, and there is a large TV screen overlooking the bar area from the chimney. The bar staff were friendly, while the other customers were a mixed bag of locals, also friendly enough. Cask ales on were Butcombe Original and Pride, and there was a dry pump. Also available were Guinness, Heineken, Inch’s Cider, Thatcher’s Gold, Moretti and Amstel. A pleasant visit which I’d be happy to repeat, and next time I’ll try the food which looked like good value.
