A pleasant evening was spent here recently. The full range of Hop Back beers were on offer, although Entire Stout ran out mid-evening. I would have liked to have seen one or two guest ales, as I'm not that much in love with Hop Back beers - all look the same (I'm not keen on golden beers), and all taste rather bland to me (I realise this is a personal opinion!)

Dating from the 1880’s when it was primarily a hotel, the Wyndham is best known today for being the birthplace of the Hop Back brewery in 1987 although the brewery itself moved to nearby Downton when demand became too much for the pub to handle. A large sign is built into the side of the exterior wall commemorating its origins.
Situated on the corner of a series of terraced houses, it blends in with its neighbours and has enough homely touches that make it quite welcoming, niot least the very friendly barman (who was probably the guv’nor). The interior is divided into a series of samall rooms radiating off the cebntral bar with simple furnishings, brick fireplaces, a dart board and TV. The general décor is pretty ordinary but there are a mix of old pictures, brewery mirrors and posters that beg for closer inspection. As for the rather baffling cricket score on display of 113 for 11, this was apparently due to an annual cricket match played by the locals where both sides had too many players and made a decision to play 13 a side hence the rather quirky scores!
The centrepiece of the pub is of course the superb selection of Hop Back beers with 5 available on our latest visit (GFB, Summer Lightning, Crop Circle, Heracles and Taiphoon) plus a guest ale (Moorhouse Ruby Witch). My pint of Taiphoon was probably the best (of many) pint of the day and we were also offered a sample of the new Heracles beer, quite decent although only 2.8%. Prices were amongst the best we came across in town although I didn’t make any notes regarding food availability.
There was quite a bubbling atmosphere and I could easily have settled down for an entire evening. Certainly a must visit pub for Ale lovers although it should be noted that they do not open until late afternoons on Monday to Wednesday.

You receive a very warm welcome when you enter this pub which makes you feel like you are in someone’s house. This is the birthplace of Hopback beers and there is always an impressive selection of beers available in perfect condition.
Don't miss this one!

One of Wiltshire's best pubs, with a solid history of excellent beer, great hospitality and an essential part of any pub crawl. Its history as a brew-pub (though no longer one) and no-nonsense, atmospheric Victorian setting add to the experience. Still Salisbury's best, as far as I'm concerned. My last visit saw a pint of GFB washed down with another of Chimera, both in perfect condition. 10/10.

A truly wonderful pub with fantastic real ale & several bottled beers. Located on east side of the city next to the city ring road. On street parking. I can't improve on the CAMRA Good Beer Guide description. Whenever I'll be in the area this place will be a must visit - even if it means staying somewhere over night.

Hop Back owned pub offering 5 on Sat, Summer Lightning, GFB, Crop Circle, Spring Zing, and Downton Forest King. Small front room beyond which is a narrow area with bar on left opening back out to seating area at far end with tv, prepping up for the afternoon rugby, below which is sited the somewhat inaccessible dartboard, my scribblings say there was another room to the right opposite the bar. Friendly enough welcome, the locals here were clustered at the bar itself and, with that choice, why not? Not a hugely characterful building, but good beer & folk.

Good ale house serving the full range of Hop Back beers, in clean comfortable surroundings. Former home of the Hop Back Brewery. It really does feel like you are drinking in somebody's living room and in fact the journey upstairs to the gents had me wondering if I had inadvertently somehow wandered into an adjoining house. Main room has the bar on the left on entering, a seperate parlour style room is across from the bar. Football on the tv yesterday but it was not overpowering. Definitely worthy of a return visit.

This is where the Hopback Brewery started many years ago, a classic street corner local with a single bar and a seperate drinking area at the front where you can see many awards Hopback has won over the years for their beers. A fair distance from the city centre/railway station but there are regular buses from the centre that stop outside. This pub does not open until 4.30pm Mon-Thurs 3pm Friday and all day Sat-Sun. If you only visit one pub in Salisbury make it this one.
