New tenants and great beers still kept in tip-top condition! The Sunday Roast needs minor attention, dry meat, limp roasties and an Eton Mess which wasn't an Eton Mess! However, all of this can be improved upon and I am sure it will. A very friendly couple of hosts and a pub that is well worth making the effort to visit.

A large 1930s-built pub in its own grounds serving the Bemerton area, this pub's best two features are the spectacular views across the Avon Valley across to Old Sarum and its ale. There are 2 bars, a public bar at the front with darts and tv, and a lounge at the rear. It has been refurbished within the last few years, and this year saw new tenants take over. It serves restaurant-style food and is very much a community pub. Dogs and strangers are welcome, and there are 3 ales on - I had Doombar which was in excellent condition. A little out of the way (unless you are travelling to Devizes) but worth making the effort for.

Still an amazing pub in which to sup a few beers. In fact, I've upped my rating! A trip on Sunday meant a few Doombars and Adnam's Lighthouses, in excellent condition, then a scrumptious Sunday roast! The views across to Old Sarum were magnificent. Sadly, the landlord and landlady are retiring, so here's hoping the new couple keep up the standard!

The Royal Oak has had a recent refurbishment and is a delightful place to spend an hour or three. On my recent visit, good quality Sharp's Doom Bar and Adnam's Bitter were on offer, and a good pub-food menu at realistic prices. There is a Sunday carvery, however, no vegetarian option available. Lovely views over Old Sarum from the balcony area.
