This 13th Century former coaching inn, now a Legacy Hotel, sits just outside the City centre and has been bypassed by the new main road, making the area a quiet backwater. Until recently it had two very pleasant bars, but these have been redeveloped as the business focuses more on the hotel and catering aspects. This has meant that there is now only one cramped bar, which has not been done well and has destroyed much of the building's previous character. There is a pleasant paved garden adjacent to the river which has good views of the cathedral. The staff were inefficient, and the bar was being hogged by a rowdy funeral party, not well managed by the staff and making life unpleasant for the rest of us. The only ale on was Tribute, which was badly kept. A quaint place to stay, convenient for the City centre, the food looked good but we didn't try it, and if you want a decent beer I would suggest going elsewhere.
