A large 19th century village pub with a strong local feel, catering mainly for villagers and the nearby military garrison, and the Vincent Owners’ Club meets here once a month. It’s currently owned by Greene King. The building is fronted by a car park and some outbuildings and has a small garden to one side. A large carpeted public bar fills one side of the ground floor and has a pool table, dart board and a couple of gaming machines. There are various seating styles including an enormous comfy sofa which takes up most of the front end. Dogs are allowed this side but not the other, which consists of a saloon bar and separate dining room. The staff weren’t particularly welcoming, although the locals seemed happy to see us. Two ales on, GK IPA and Everard’s Tiger, both in reasonable condition. There was also a real cider on hand pull. It’s OK if you’re in the area, and they have a reputation for throwing good parties, but it’s not somewhere I’d seek out unless I was already in the area.
