This lively village pub dates in part from the 15th Century and despite various renovations has kept much of its charm which is reinforced by oak beams, stone floors and brick-and-flint walls. There are two fireplaces, a small one with an open fire and an inglenook with an iron range heater. Once part of the Earl of Pembroke’s estate, it is currently run by Hall and Woodhouse and has a busy local social life including a cricket team (in the Summer, obviously) and quiz nights. There is a public bar with pews, tables and a few comfy chairs, and there is a larger dining room at the back. The public bar also offers a gaming machine, tv showing sports matches and a dart board. There is BT WiFi available, and the pub is dog-friendly, including offering dog treats from the bar. Outside, there is a paved garden area and a gravel carpark which is entered from the cul-de-sac at the back; there is B&B accommodation in chalets adjacent to this area. Food is freshly cooked and good value. The full range of Badger beers is available in bottles and there were 2 on draft. I had First Call which was first class, among the best I’ve had. The staff were welcoming and the locals of all ages were friendly. This must be one of H&W's best pubs and is one in which I could spend many hours.
