Durrington's social hub is The Plough, a village pub housed in a 1960s community centre-style building in the centre of this working village, far enough from the tourist routes to be unspoilt. There is a car park at the side but nothing you could call a garden. There is a function room at the rear, which has the ambience of a Scout hut, and a large, square bar at the front with parquet flooring and NAAFI style furniture. Pool, gaming machines and TV sports form the entertainment, and there is a good community atmosphere on match days. There was a short period a couple of years ago when the pub tried to be an alehouse, but sadly the only offerings today, apart from the megakeg bank, were Hobgoblin and Doombar, both too cold and over-gassed. Still a decent local but it will need more than a team of heavy horses to pull this Plough out of its current rut.
