A traditional village pub dating from the 1700s, formed from two conjoined cottages. There is a small car park and a fairly scruffy seating area, plus a garden with wooden benches and tables. A new extension on the side houses a pool table. The small public bar has an open fire, dartboards, a TV screen and a jukebox, and there is a bowl of water for dogs. The larger lounge bar and dining room combined is formed from two earlier rooms. The bar area has a laminate floor and plenty of space for drinkers, while the dining area is carpeted and comfortable. Food is basic pub grub plus Indian-style tapas. Ales on were Exmoor Gold and Speckled Hen, both in reasonable condition. It’s a good local, welcoming, and I wouldn’t turn a blind eye to this one; worth a visit if in the area.
