As described by OB, below, this popular country pub is family run and has a pleasant atmosphere. The staff are friendly, there are dog treats on the bar and there is a brick chimney breast as part of the décor. The front patio suffers from traffic noise, while the back garden is much quieter. Ales on were Otter Fest Blue Grass IPA, Theakstone’s Barrista Stout and Salopian Treasure Trove. There was also a dry pump. Keg options were Asahi, Peroni, Amstel, Carlsberg, Guinness and two from Cornish Orchards. Food was expensive, probably due to its New Forest location. I’d be happy to drop in again if passing.

A four square building on a ridge on the edge of the New Forest. Open plan L shape inside, to the front right is just about a public bar with a dining area beyond at the back, on the left is another dining area. It’s carpeted and fairly comfy although furnished just with tables and chairs. Decor is largely old photos of the forest and its people in the public, a bit more viniculture in the dining areas. The photos are augmented with pubby stuff like Toby jugs and deer skulls. The L shaped counter holds four hand pumps with a choice of three beers, Exmoor Wildcat, Otter Amber and Fierce Noir stout, two low T-Bars of standards offer a keggy selection. It’s pretty dog friendly inside and in the front patio and rear garden.
