A large village pub on the main road through. There is a car park at the rear, and there are two or three outside seating areas, gravelled, with really nice views of the countryside behind. The interior is floorboarded, which with its mix of antique furniture, makes for a pleasant, homely setting. The antiques include a radiogram, some stand-on scales and various furniture items, though it’s no museum – a large selection of DVDs, for example, adds to the clutter. Food is traditional pub grub plus Sunday roasts and daily specials, freshly prepared and good value, while the young staff, who were learning on the job when we visited, are carefully watched by the landlady. Tables have Scrabble trays indicating their reserved status. Ales on were 6X and Tim Taylor’s Knowle IPA; I had the latter which was in very good condition. Well worth a visit if passing and a good place to stop for lunch.
