Just a bit up the hill from the longstanding GBG Three Crowns, and trying to hang on the coat tails with a scarcely credible 6 ales on, 3 via pump and 3 via bar stillage with no cooling in evidence. Assumed the pump would be the lesser of two evils and went for a Frome Funky Monkey and got the expected quality half (NBSS 2), suffering from a complete lack of turnover. The pub itself a higgledy-piggledy affair, dog leg shaped via opening-out years ago. To be fair whilst it feels a bit dated it has been looked after. Entering directly into a pool table is weird though. Feels like somewhere that needs to really push itself, too far out of town for passing trade and not disciplined enough to grab a GBG place, summed-up by the guv’nor being more interested in watching the snooker in the upper room and not being behind the bar. Almost like he wasn’t expecting (m)any customers… 4.5
