Blue Scrumpy left this review about The London Road Inn

On my first ever visit to Calne, my first stop was this locals' pub heading south out of town.

I stayed in the front room for my visit. It has a games machine and a TV. There are plenty of pumpclips on the beams. Some interesting beers have certainly been on. Although for my visit, the regular Wye Valley Butty Bach was supplemented by Dartmoor Jail Ale & Otter Bitter. Butcombe Original was coming on next, according to a board. It would have been nice if something a bit more adventurous or local had been on. Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA was on keg and ciders were Thatcher's Gold & Haze & Old Mout.

I found the barman very friendly. Heavy metal was playing, if you like that kind of thing. A quiz was advertised and dogs are also made welcome. I didn't get to explore the room to the rear, it supposedly has a pool table. There is also a skittle alley.

Whilst this is a pretty basic no-frills boozer, it does stock cask ale and seems to have a loyal and local clientele with plenty of other redeeming features.

60s refit pub which is largely unchanged - artex walls, black painted beams/supports on both ceiling and walls. Two rooms partially knocked-through with a bit of supporting wall left by the bar. Looks NCA on entering, the three pumps are actually in the old rear room hidden by said supporting wall. There’s a huge separate rear area which looks like a conversion (or transformable?) from a skittles alley with multiple darts and a pool table. Two cask on, Wye Valley Butty Bach and Broadtown Best Bitter which was in really good nick (NBSS 3.5). A few locals in watching the Six Nations and a teenage Nirvana-clad barmaid who was switched-on enough to bid me a farewell. Decent little place for the traditionalists amongst you. 6.5
