As far as I can recall, this is the only pub in Wetherby that I've drunk in before, but that was long before I started making notes of my pub visits, so I can't be sure. It's a really good pub, with a friendly and welcoming licensee who can certainly keep the beer well. Old Peculier, Landlord and Black Sheep Best are the constant regulars, and my half of Black Sheep was very good (NBSS 4, £4.50/pint). Occasional guest beers feature, but apparently they don't do so well, so he's sticking with the regular trio for now. This one is definitely worth a visit if you're passing through.

The Red Lion is situated on Wetherbys busy high street and now sports the horrible battle ship grey colour.
Once inside the pub still seems pretty traditional, the is an L shaped room with the bar facing on entry, the front left side is down two steps, the room is carpeted, the seating bench type and normal tables and chairs.
There was a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of York Guzzler which was a very nice well kept beer, the real ales were York Centurian Ghost,Copper Dragon Golden Pippin,John Smiths Cask,GK Abbot and Old Speckled Hen.
The TVs were showing the Olympics and food was being served.
The pub was very busy on my Saturday dinner visit.
I quite liked this pub.

Large pub at the bottom of the High St, a traditional sort of place, part of the pub is at lower level as it is built on hill leading up from the river Wharfe. Open plan with stone floors, modern stained glass, mid brown furnishings and an horse racing theme to the décor. Three big screens, probably tuned to the racing when it's on. Mostly on one level there is the lower area at the front to one side, at the back is a pool table and further back an outside area, in the middle the counter against one wall and traditional pub furnishings. Six handpumps but only Black Sheep bitter and John Smiths Cask available although well kept, T bars provide the usual keg stuff, and the service was excellent.
