This pub is uphill and only a few minutes walk out of the town. The locals refer to it as 'Top o' the street'. The pub is under new management and has had a major refurb. The main bar front and back bar has been painted in dark blue and new polished brass coat hooks added along the bar front. The mahogany bar counter had also been revived. The original bench seating has also been reupholstered in red along with the chairs and dark blue in the lounge side. A dark teal colour has been painted to a couple of feature walls. There's also a very plush, light grey carpet fitted throughout, can it take all the customer traffic, especially in winter?
The landlady was very warm and friendly and served good beer. Two handpumps serving Ossett White Rat and Ossett Nervous Turkey. All in all, a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in here.

The Royal Oak is a stone built pub that is away from the town centre, uphill from the station.
Once inside there is a square shaped room with the bar facing, the room is carpeted and has comfy bench seating, there is a pool table to the front right and a TV to the right which was showing football.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of beer called Townhouse,or i think i did, notes a bit scruffy by now, anyway it was a decent drink to end my crawl of Sowerby Bridge on,there may have also been Holts Two Hoots on the bar,but again i am unsure.
This is a proper pub,the sort i like doing.
