This is somewhere that could do with getting its act together in terms of publishing its opening hours, as I found various bits of conflicting information before deciding to visit. I've seen both 1pm and 2:30pm advertised, but unfortunately on the day of my attempted visit the shutters were still down at 2:45pm so I was left feeling I'd wasted my time. A shame, as I was looking forward to trying the Jolly Boys Brewery ales.

Hopefully others will have more luck with this place.

I was here not long after Jolly Boys Brewery took it over. It's not very welcoming in terms of appearance, but perhaps they are limited in what they can do because it's a railway station. Entrance is through a door off the car park, through a foyer and left through brick arches to the bar room. The bar counter is on the left, so facing the platform, to which there is no access from the pub. The bar counter is made of sleepers or similar timber and there are six hand pumps. Two of these were ciders, and the other four were their own beers, though I was told they have occasional guests from Chin Chin and Magpie. There are railway posters on the walls, and access to additional seating areas: a 1st class waiting room, as signed, and a type of verandah or enclosed glazed area facing the railway. It's an odd sort of place but they seem to have done a good job with it, but the barman told me it can be "hit and miss" - it was certainly quiet when I was here between 5 and 6pm. I guess the beers must be on cask breathers, though I didn't confirm this. I had a porter, a Yorkshire bitter and a ruby IPA, which were respectively NBSS 3.5, 3 and 2.5.
